Riding Principles

PSYCHOLOGY OF WINNING

Four Points of View:

  1. The captain of a river boat was asked by a particularly nervous passenger:
"Captain, this is a notoriously dangerous river. Do you know where all the rocks are ?"
"No", replied the captain. "But, I do know where the channel is"!

  2. To be successful, the rider must understand the principles that underlie the application of physical aids, how to use them during training, warm-up and the performance of the test. However, when two riders understand these principles and know how to apply them, it will be the one who pays attention to the psychological aspects of the aids who will be the more successful. Improper psychological action can, in fact, counteract the physically correct aids.

  3. If you think you are beaten, you are,
If you think you dare not, you don't
If you'd like to win, but you think you can't
    it's almost certain you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you've lost
For out in the world you'll find,
Success begins with a person's will,
It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are.
You've got to think high to rise,
You've got to be sure of yourself
Before you can win a prize.

    Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But sooner or late those who win
Are the ones who think they can.
